Dutchmen win key Liberty League game at Vassar, 93-52

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- The Union men's basketball team shot a blistering 60 percent from the field in the first half and made 11 three-point field goals on the night in a 93-52 win over Vassar College Friday evening at The Athletic Center.

With the victory, Union kept its Liberty League Tournament playoff hopes alive. The Dutchmen began and ended the evening in a tie with Hobart for the fourth and final spot in next week's tournament.

Union, now 15-9 overall and 8-5 in league play, had four players score in double figures. The Dutchmen were led by senior guard John Cagianello (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) led all scorers with 20 points. Union, who had 11 different players score, received 15 points off the bench from
freshman guard Steve Madej (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake). Sophomore guard Rob Futia (Greenwich, CT) added 12 points in 12 minutes off the bench for the Dutchmen.

Vassar (11-12, 3-10) received 10 points off the bench from junior forward William Kieffer (Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greely). The Brewers will wrap up the 2005-06 season at home against Skidmore Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Union travels to RPI for a 4:00 pm game. RPI is 9-4 in the league after a 73-51 win over Skidmore and Hobart is 8-5 after a 66-62 win at Clarkson.
